Taking a road trip in an RV is just about one of the best experiences you can have. You might want to buy or rent an RV, so here is some sage advice for your trip.
1. Save Your Brakes ? Unlike a car, stopping an RV requires a lot of friction in the breaks. This is particularly true with sudden stops. While your brake pads are built for the extra weight, take care to down shift to slow your speed.
2. RV Rush Hour Driving ? You may be tempted to keep trucking along even if you are a big city during rush hour. I highly advise against this. Frustrated drivers can be vicious. You will also put a lot of wear and tear on your RV.
3. RV Drivers License ? For years, advocates have proposed the idea of requiring special drivers licenses for people driving RVs. As of January 2007, no such requirement exists nor is any legislation pending.
4. Your RV Profile ? When looking at RV models, consider how you are going to use them. If you plan to stay in luxury resorts, you are going to need one type of model. If you plan to drive out into the middle of Alaska for hunting, you need a different type.
5. Mexico Parking Lots ? If you are cruising Mexico, leaving your RV in a lot can be risky. Make sure to tip the person controlling the lot a few dollars. Doing so usually prevents problems.
6. Fast Lane RVing ? First off, going 80 in an RV is very risky. Stay out of the fast lane. Even if you can handle it, you stick out like a thumb, which means tickets from your friendly highway patrol.
7. The RV Lane ? The best lane to pick on a freeway is typically the one next to the slow lane. Use this lane and you can avoid dealing with people coming on and off the freeway.
8. Considering Storage of Your RV ? Before you buy an RV, one of the big issues you have to address is where are you going to park it when not using it. Storage of your RV can be more difficult than you think, so get it worked out ahead of time.
9. RV Purchase Budget ? If you have enough money to buy an RV, you already know about handling money. In this case, you need to set an RV purchase budget. Know what you can spend and stick to it! Don?t overspend because you fall in love with a model.
10. RV Braking Distance ? If you are renting an RV, you need to adjust your assumptions. An RV does not break like a car because it is much heavier. Stay back from vehicles in front of you so there is plenty of room to come to a stop.
At the end of the day, a motorhome is definitely a great way to get out and experience the world. It offers freedom on a moments notice and enough money to fill up the gas tank. If you get a chance, give it a go at least once.
